Free Alternative Image Editing Programs

Without going into the many reasons to explore alternative Image Editing Programs, I have created a list of programs that I feel are worth checking out. In the case of all these programs, they are free. As more people use the programs, the developers have greater incentive to continue their development. So, if you like them be sure to spread the word.
Free Photo Editing alternatives:
GIMP – from the official site, “GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.”
GIMPSHOP – a distribution of GIMP with an interface that is designed to emulate that of Photoshop – Windows only photo editing program
CinePaint – Linux only photo editing program – supports up to 32 bits per channel
Free Digital Painting alternatives: ArtWeaver
Art Rage 2.5
Pixarra Twisted Brush
Free Vector Imaging alternative Inkscape
Scribus – free distributed page layout application
Raw Therapee – a full featured stand alone RAW file convertor powered by Dave Coffin’s dcraw
UFRaw - Unidentified Flying Raw – a full featured standalone and GIMP plugin RAW convertor powered by Dave Coffin’s dcraw
Picassa - Google's free image editor - Its editing features are limited, but it shines as a poor man's data asset management application. It creates and saves thumbnails of all your images to facilitate their location. Also a really simple way of getting a gallery of images online if you use the Web Gallery feature which is also free up to a certain amount of space. It also supports RAW files, again via Dave Coffin’s dcraw
