Free Alternative Image Editing Programs

Without going into the many reasons to explore alternative Image Editing Programs, I have created a list of programs that I feel are worth checking out. In the case of all these programs, they are free. As more people use the programs, the developers have greater incentive to continue their development. Picassa - Google's free image editor - Its editing features are limited, but it shines as a poor man's data asset management application. It creates and saves thumbnails of all your images to facilitate their location. Also a really simple way of getting a gallery of images online if you use the Web Gallery feature which is also free up to a certain amount of space.
